Songs of the Week (July 10th)

I took a week long hiatus from SOTW for the holidays, but I'm back in business. Also, congrats to Jeter for his 3,000 hit, but I'd much rather gaze at his fiancee then him so she'll be sponsoring this week's songs. I'm coming back strong with some Drake, XV, 2pac, Nipsey Hussle, Young Buck and others. Hit the jump to check it out, and make sure to look at last week's songs.

Drake - Still Drake (feat. Trey Songz)
Released before Drake was blowing up, I usually don't approve of artists going over classic beats, but in this case, the end result is fire. Over the "Still D.R.E." production, even Trey drops some hot bars.

I used to cut the porch lights on,
Now I cut the porch lights on,
Just to let 'em know their forseights wrong.
Where this nigga goin' with that obscure ice on?
He just lame, I'm tryna get my mature life on.

Young Buck - Rock N Roll
I'm really a fan of rock/rap fused together, and this is a good example of such. Buck keeps the rhymes hood as fuck with a twangy guitar dominating the production.

And I think I'm cold,
All my dope is sold,
And I think they know that I'm a walking bankroll.

XV - When We're Done
Even 6 months after it's release, Zero Heroes is still one of my top 3 favorite mixtapes/albums of all time. One of the only projects I can listen straight through without feeling like skipping on song. This is Track 3 from the project and one of my favorite songs.

They said I smiled too much to be an a-hole,
And these girls is too much for me to take home.
Bad as Beyonce, could be a fiancee,
But she too horny to have a halo.
And these niggas ain't on me like I'm a J. Cole.
More work for me, just more persons to see,
That one day that kid out of Kansas could be a Jay Hov.

Mac Miller - Get Up!

One of my favorite tracks off of Best Day Ever. I haven't heard anything less then #MostDope from Mac lately.

Chillin' with some sour, got a bad dame twistin',
These people think I'm goofy, say I'm Max they trippin'.
Cuz life a comedy like my last name Griffin.
Living for the moment, blowin' potent,
Overloaded and my swagger call me Old Spice.

Nipsey Hussle - Army All By Myself (feat. Jay Rock & 2pac)
Some real, West Coast heat right here. Everybody kills it. I'm not sure what 2pac verse this took, but it feels like Pac was in the dusty ass basement studio with Jay and Nipsey just trying to make some overcome-the-struggle music.
